Praia is the Portuguese word for Beach, and the sheltered, safe, sandy, Blue Flag Beach at Luz is 10 minutes walk from the villas. The beach is protected by the Rochas Negras Cliffs to the East and by a 17th Century fort on the Western side. Much older remains of Roman baths and ruins can be seen  close to the paved Promenade that leads down to the beach, evidence of its historic connections with leisure and fishing. There are several smaller beaches within walking distance, the nearest being the small Praia Senhoras da Luz.

There are numerous beautiful sandy beaches, coves and fishing villages along the coast to the West towards Sagres and Cabo de Sao Vicente (Cape St. Vincent), the most Westerly point in Europe.  Northwards are the mountains of Sierra de Monchique with pretty mountain villages and passes, wooded hills and wonderful views of the whole south east coastline.  The Spa town of Monchique is famous for its mineral waters and the spectacular views from the mountain range of the same name.   

The historic town of Lagos is full of character with its old city walls, and myriad of cobbled streets.  Lagos is capital of the region and is 6 Kilometres to the East of Praia da Luz. 

Lagos has a large marina and offers a super choice of everything from ancient buildings and ruins to shopping, restaurants, nightlife and boat trips for whale and dolphin-watching. 

There is a regular bus service between Lagos and Luz/Burgau.

Golf enthusiasts are very well catered for in the area with more than 30 golf courses, many of championship standard.  Praia da Luz is adjacent to Boa Vista Golf Course and Parque da Floresta Golf Resort and Palmares are nearby, with another 12 golf courses within a 30 minute drive.  The Algarve weather makes it a favourite all- year-round destination for golfing and the wide variety of golf courses mean that golfers are spoiled for choice! 

Algarve Weather: As the southernmost province of Portugal the Algarve has a wonderful climate, with some 3,000 hours of Sunshine a year!  The Summers are hot and dry with average temperatures of 25C. The Winters are mild with average temperatures of 14C, when the days can be quite warm, with cooler nights. The year-round mild weather, maintained by warm sea and air currents from North Africa, make it one of the most popular Holiday and Golfing Destinations in Europe.
